West Broad Bandshell was born from a desire to create more than just a restaurant. We wanted to build a space that honors history, celebrates culture, and brings people together. Located along the historic corridor of West Broad Street in Savannah, our home sits on ground that once served as the heartbeat of Black commerce, culture, and community. During the early and mid-20th century, through times of segregation and systemic barriers, West Broad Street stood as a thriving hub of Black-owned businesses, music, entrepreneurship, and resilience. It was a place where excellence flourished despite limitations, and where community was built with intention and pride. West Broad Bandshell was founded by owners Tanika Hamilton and Chef Romie Cummings, the duo behind Tanika and The Chef, a catering company born out of the COVID-19 pandemic. What began as a way to provide and create during uncertain times has grown into a full expression of their shared vision. Tanika, born in Seoul, South Korea, carries a deep connection to her heritage and a desire to honor it through food, and through the legacy of her Korean mother, the late Mrs. Sun Hui Hamilton, whose influence continues to live on from her past business through this space. Alongside her, Chef Romie, her partner, created a menu that tells both of their stories. Chef Romie draws inspiration from his Gullah Geechee roots and the Southern traditions passed down from his grandmother, Ms. Elizabeth Ruth Cummings, better known as "Sista," of Daufuskie Island and Savannah, where food is rich with history, soul, and intention. The result is a table where two heritages meet: a place where every dish carries a story, every visit honors a legacy, and everyone has a seat.
